CELEBRATION OF OUR ARTS ~ WEEK TWO

Hello Friends!

The end of the summer is officially here with the school back in session, alarm clocks buzzing, carpools, and our children's noses back in the books.  Summer vacation flew by much too quickly.

Here's one last look at some of the fun the Camper Kids had during the second week of Summer Arts Camp...

Look at this fabulous collection of work!

Parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters all gathered to enjoy this feast for the eyes under our tents in the garden.

The Camper Kids proudly showed off their work.

And then the sweetest gift was given to me by one darling camper girl...my favorite buttery, nutty, melt-in-your-mouth cookies made by her and her Grammie in a box so artfully decorated, of course.  Thank you both!

The last project we did at the end of both weeks was a handwritten thank you note, which we mailed to each of our sponsors.  We were so appreciative of their generous donations, which made our Summer Arts Camp the best it could be.  Thank you to all of you from all of us.

SUMMER ARTS CAMP ~ PUBLISHED!

The other day I received a complimentary contributor's copy of Artful Blogging in my mail box and to my surprise the Summer Arts Camp 2013 banner, which I had shown to the editor {Jennifer Jackson Taylor, an artist herself} earlier this summer, was published!

Check this out ~ the third one down ~ Summer Arts Camp 2013 ~ recognized in this beautiful journal of beautiful websites and beautiful blogs.

 I am even more thrilled, not just for the fact that our local art camp was noticed, but that Matthew's original art is part of the banner design.

"Sailing Away" and "Beautiful Sunset" are his original watercolor paintings that he created when he was just four and five years old.  Way to go Matthew!  {We sell his collection of fine art prints, called "Monkey Treats" in our Etsy shop.}  The entire Monkey Treats collection is shown on the side bar collage below to the right.

So this is a lesson to all you creative kids ~ keep up the good work and one day your work may be featured in a magazine and sold to art collector's around the world!

MODERN ART DAY

We celebrated the Twentieth Century Modern Artists one day at Summer Arts Camp during week two.  Inspired by the simplicity of Joan MirÒ and Paul Klee, the Camper Kids sketched their whimsical figures and painted away!

Using just one black Sharpie marker and only the three primary colors of paint ~ red, yellow, and blue ~ the children got creative with their own versions of Joan MirÒ illustrations and paintings.  Take a look at these fabulous works of art...

 

 

While these adorable paintings were drying, the Camper Kids channeled Paul Klee and drew cityscapes on vintage book pages {from old Reader's Digest books donated from the Friends of the Library}, and then painted their drawings with watercolors.

Villages, castles, and faraway places were created on these printed pages.

I'm just showing you a few, but each child drew and painted three and they all were very imaginative.

Watercolor is the easiest way to have instant gratification when painting because it moves so easily on the paper and dries so quickly.

The Camper Kids did awesome work during Modern Art Day!

As the momentum of summer slows down, Summer Arts Camp is becoming a memory, but there are still some creations the Camper Kids made that I will share with you all before I sign off for the season.

GARDEN ARTS

It's already been three weeks since our last Camper Kid packed up and left our second week of Summer Arts Camp...

...and it's about time I share some of the creations the kids made.

One of our themed art days was Mother Nature's Art and Garden Art Day.  A project that day was Garden Creatures so in between the rain showers we all took a hike in our woods and through our gardens...

 ...collected pine cones, pods, twigs...

...leaves, seeds, and flower petals...

...and created a family of Garden Creatures!

Each Camper Kid made a Woodland Creature, 

a Green Guy, and

a Garden Flower Fairy.  Then I made a photograph of each and printed them out for each of them to add to their portfolio.

These shown above are just a few darling ones.

I am happy to tell you that some of the Camper Kids have e-mailed me recently with photographs of creatures that they have made after Summer Arts Camp while on their summer vacations!  

We have just returned from our vacation at the sea shore and my assistant Matthew and I have a new collection of Beach Buddies we made with sea shells we found on the beach.  {We'll share with you soon!}

CELEBRATION OF OUR ARTS ~ WEEK ONE

What a fabulous first week we had during Summer Arts Camp! 

Circle day was dizzying and lots of fun mid-week...

Ocean Day cooled us off while we made jelly fish from tissue papered bowls and ribbon streamers, sea sponge toss balls, and salt watercolor paintings.

There were so many projects we created by the end of the week, that I did not even have a chance to photograph all of them before they left our studio.

But all of the artists' works on were displayed at their very own Celebration of Our Arts outdoor garden gallery show at the end of the week on Friday afternoon.

And...it was truly a celebration of arts!  Great work Camper Kids.  I hope I will see some of you back here next summer.

ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE

There were 12 Block Heads at Summer Arts Camp last week!

 Each and every one with its own unique personality made by hand by 12 little artists in residence.

  The wood we used was from pine boards broken at Ahn's Tae Kwon Do* red and black belt testings and other events.  Thank you Master Johnny!  In addition, I have saved all sorts of "stuff" for the past year for our Up Cycled Art Day.

With a little inspiration ~ Block Heads made by my assistant** and me*** ~ the children rummaged through bins, buckets, and baskets of everything and came up with these fabulous ideas on their own.  All I had to do was get my glue gun hot!

Monday, June 17th, begins week two of Summer Arts Camp with 12 more little Camper Kids and dozens more arts and craft projects.  Looking forward to seeing their creations and sharing with all of you.
