DOODLE ARTS DAY ~ WEEK ONE

Each year on the first day of Summer Arts Camp we start off the week with a warm up doing Doodle Art.

With a brand new project for Summer Arts Camp and a little inspiration from us, the Camper Kids got busy and began doodling on dishes.

Using a collection of Sharpie markers in a kaleidoscope of colors the children each created their own unique dish designs.

The collection was diverse ~ each artist somehow inspiring another in small ways.

When the Camper Kids were finished painting their plates with the pens, we baked them in the oven to set the ink and make it permanent.  {For the recipe, see below.}

With a twist on traditional Mehndi hand prints, a few of the talented hands left these prints with us.

But this was my most favorite!

It was a great start to our first week of Summer Arts Camp 2015.  Get ready for more fabulous photographs and work by these Camper Kids.  We had a week packed with art projects we can't wait to share with you.

Doodle Dish Recipe

Clean porcelain plate with rubbing alcohol.

Let dry.

Doodle with Sharpie markers.

Let dry.

Place in pre-heated 250 degree oven for 45 minutes.

Let cool.

*Some other recipes you may find online will recommend 425 degrees for 20 minutes, but this totally faded my first design.  Slow and low is my recommendation for a perfect result.

DOODLE DAY, PART DEUX

Our tradition is that the first day of Summer Arts Camp each week is Doodle Day.  

This year our theme for Doodle Day was the Big Face ~ the Camper Kids drew and then watercolored their very own selfies.

The creativity the Camper Kids showed this second week was over the top crazy good.

Their imaginations went wild.

Modern art prevailed.

Abstract self portraits truly resembled the artists who painted them...

...one way or another.

Family portraits were part of the collection too.

Pretty girly girls...

...and silly boys showed their true colors.

Then their fingers were everywhere as they created their own mehndi henna hand prints.

These Camper Kids would not stop!

Fabulous fantasy cityscape pen and ink watercolors on vintage book pages...

...and doodles made into stories were documented with colored markers in their personal journals.

This was one of the BEST days of camp!  Such talent and vision from each and every one.

We could hardly wait to see what these Camper Kids would create next.

ARTS AROUND THE WORLD

Are you ready to let your imagination travel around the world?  Get your passport ready, because this will be a first class journey!

During our Summer Arts Camp this June, one of our themed art programs will be an International Arts Day, featuring the arts of a different country each week.

This is just one example of some of the art we will be creating during our International Arts Day ~ Mexican Mirrors and Tin Engravings ~ traditional Mexican Folk Art.

We will also be travelling across the world to far away India and creating our own Indian Mehndi art, the traditional art of painting the hands or feet. 

Each Camper Kid will be making his or her own unique Mehndi Henna Hand Prints.  

We've got more stamped in our passport, but cannot give away all our secrets, so check back regularly for more sneak peeks of the artistic creations that you can enjoy every day during Summer Arts Camp 2014!
