CUT IT OUT!

It's as simple as
black and white.

Guss says that

Summer Arts Camp
is here!

Our first week of camp begins in just two days and we are thrilled to have some of our veteran Camper Kids join us again and excited to meet our new friends this summer.

Inspired by Henri Matisse's paper cutouts, here's a peek at one of the projects we will be creating at Summer Arts Camp 2017 during our BLACK & WHITE ARTS DAY!

See you soon!

THE FACES OF SUMMER ARTS CAMP

We had some adorable faces with us during our 2016 Summer Arts Camp, and even though camp is done, their smiles will stay with us for quite some time.

As is our tradition on the first day of camp each year, we introduce ourselves and show off our talent with our very own illustrated and painted...

...selfies!

Using black Sharpies and the strategic placement of watercolor on acid free mat board, the two dimensional faces of our Camper Kids came to life.

It is always a fun beginning to our camp week and a barometer of what to expect from these little artists in residence.

We could tell from these works of art that we were in for an adventurous and artistic two weeks.

The saturation of color was beyond bold.

The expressions drawn on these faces so true to the personalities of the Camper Kids.

Their work was such an inspiration to me, that I even had a few moments to sit down with them to paint a couple of portraits myself.

Here is a peek at some of their work in progress...

...and a few who posed with their painted portraits.

We will be posting these photographs on our Instagram and Facebook pages, so stay in the know and  please follow!

CELEBRATION OF OUR ARTS ~ 2015

...and it was a celebration!

The Camper Kids had an endless collection of creations to proudly share with their friends and families.

The joy in their faces was priceless.

All we can say, is that we hope we see some of these darlings back this summer for Summer Arts Camp 2016.

And to our 2015 sponsors, a huge THANK YOU!

Registration will begin on April 1, 2016.  As in our previous years, we will only accept 12 Camper Kids each week, so please register early to secure your spot.  {Last year we unfortunately did not have enough room for everyone who wanted to participate ~ we keep it small to ensure the best experience for the children.}

AMERICAN GRAFFITI

Beyond the walls of the city buildings and under the full moon and stars...

...is a village in black and white.

This is where tall tailored, buttoned down hound's tooth and pin striped houses dance with the made-by-sheet-music houses and gigantic blooms that loom above.

Who holds the key that unlocks this mysterious village?

Does he?

Or does he?

We think that they both do...

...and when they turn the key to unlock the village gates, their imagination goes wild!

Using all the ways they can think of painting and inspired by Picasso, Matisse, and others of their era ~ they grab sponges, string, found objects, and bamboo paint brushes...

...all dipped in black ink and they begin to paint the city.

Finding some charcoal bits and corks left behind from last weekend's festivities, they continue to draw figures and shapes...

...and leave their graffiti art for us to enjoy and appreciate.

Sharing with you a sneak peek into our "BLACK & WHITE ARTS DAY" which we will be doing this year at SUMMER ARTS CAMP!

{In honor of Guss, our black & white mascot, of course.}

We cannot wait to see how the Camper Kids paint our city.
